ArtHaus FLOOR SHOW Collection at Classic Fever

Classic Fever
SFDC Galleria #488

Modern Fever debuted the ArtHaus FLOOR SHOW Collection last Wednesday, and attendees were in for quite a treat.  Five new designs based on the expressive works of ArtHaus Gallery Artist, American singer/actor, Franc D’Ambrosio were on display at Classic Fever while guests sipped bubbly and noshed on tasty sushi.   Franc gave a stunning performance of the Academy Award winning Sicilian ballad Brucia La Terra from The Godfather Part III, where he acted the role of the opera singing Anthony Corleone.  He also brought a tear to guest’s eyes when performing a flawless rendition of Music of the Night from The Phantom of the Opera.  Franc played the Phantom for seven years running in San Francisco.

SFDC Member Discount – The American Decorative Arts Forum

“Thomas Chambers, American Marine and Landscape Painter”

The Constitution and the Guerriere, Ca 1840-1850 Oil on Canvas, 18×31 1/4 inches Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

The American Decorative Arts Forum’s August illustrated presentation is by the senior curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Dr. Kathleen A. Foster, whose extensive research has added to a significantly fuller understanding of Thomas Chambers’ pioneering work.

Thomas Chambers (1808-1869) played a pioneering role in expanding American folk art, then consisting almost entirely of portraiture, to include landscape and maritime art in the mid-19th century.  He is best known for melding folk and cosmopolitan styles.  Chambers lapsed deep into obscurity only to be “rediscovered,” as were many other American folk artists, in the 1940’s, as a precursor to modernism in painting.

Kathleen Foster received her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and master’s degrees and doctorate from Yale.  Prior to joining the Philadelphia Museum of Art as the Robert L. McNeil senior curator of American art, Dr. Foster was with the Indiana University Art Museum – which has an extraordinary collection of paintings by Thomas Chambers – and taught as an adjunct professor of art history and American studies at Indiana University.

When/Where: The Tuesday, August 14, 2012 lecture begins at 8:00 PM, but arrive at 7:15 PM for the mini-exhibit where members will bring oil, watercolor and print landscapes. Koret Auditorium, de Young Museum, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.

“OUTLIERS” Emerging Artist Show

“Outliers” Emerging Artist Show
December 9 from 5:30 – 10:00 PM
SFDC Showplace Lobby
2 Henry Adams Street

The SFDC is proud to announce an art show by Outliers, eleven emerging artists based in San Francisco. Please join them on December 9, 2011 from 5.30 to 10:00 PM for an evening of art, food, refreshments & live music!  Attendees will be able to “name their own price” and upon arrival will be entered into a free raffle to win paintings by the up and coming artists.

The Art Show will present a diverse selection of styles and subject matter: from photorealistic still lifes to contemporary portraiture; from abstracted figures to conceptual art objects and contemporary abstracts.

The Outliers was formed in the Fall of 2011, during the group’s final phase of their formal education. As recent graduates—mentored by Kevin Moore, represented by Hespe Gallery — the art show marks the beginning for each artist’s career in the art world and therefore a great opportunity to purchase exceptional work by tomorrow’s young stars of the art world.  Individual artist catalogs will be on sale at the opening.

The show will remain in SFDC’s Showplace building until January 20, 2012.  You may contact Suzanne Taylor for more information at 415.286.4129 or go here.
